"A History of Minnesota Baseball"
8' X 30' - Porcelain and Stone Mosaic
"A History of Minnesota Baseball" illustrates a fraction of the colorful history of amateur and professional baseball in Minnesota, with depictions of Lexington Park (home of the St. Paul Saints) and Nicollet Field (home of the Minneapolis Millers). Toni Stone (Marcenia Lyle Alberga), a St. Paul native, played second base professionally in the men's Negro Leagues. She is a member of the Women's Sports Hall of Fame and honored in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Charlie Albert Bender, born on the White Earth Indian Reservation, pitched for the Philadelphia Athletics in the early 1900s, and is the first Minnesotan to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Many small towns in Minnesota had a 'Town Ball' team. Nininger formed the first amateur baseball team in Minnesota in 1857. Darwin still hosts a team after many seasons and has a memorable Town Ball History.
"Sustainability Reborn"
8' X 24' - Porcelain and Stone Mosaic
Intended to illustrate the complex relationship between the natural world and humanity, "Sustainability Reborn" depicts children in a small boat tossed by tumultuous waters, unaware of the precarious condition of the natural world. The adults symbolize humanity's influence on the environment, while posing the question: "How do future generations continue to utilize our natural resources, while maintaining a balanced and viable ecosystem?
"Transit Then and Now"
8' X 30' - Porcelain and Stone Mosaic
"Transit Then and Now" offers a perspective of the history of rail transit in the Twin Cities. A mid-50s Hiawatha passenger train is portrayed on the left, with a present-day Hiawatha light rail vehicle on the right. A gathering of contemporary riders are depicted in the center. With the skylines of Minneapolis and St. Paul illustrated in the background, “Transit Then and Now” conveys the energy of movement and noise.

Highway 61 Bridge/Mississippi River Crossing, Hastings, MN
“Highway 61 – Spanning the Times” is an abstracted, figurative look at the history, architecture, infrastructure and landscape of the Hastings river area. Hastings is an old Mississippi River town, with a fascinating history, including: milling, auto and boat manufacturing, river and rail transportation, and farming, to name a few. This variety of content was woven together to create a mosaic collage. The murals were created by hand, using the ‘opus sectile’ technique of mosaic work.

The overarching theme of ‘WaterNotes’ will be the recurring narrative of imagery, imbedded within the illustrations of water, sky and the natural world. For those living within the steeped beauty of the Lake Superior Basin, ‘WaterNotes’ will be experienced as the lyrical patterns and colors of our lakes and rivers. More deeply hidden imagery, within the patterns of the stone tesserae, will depict the ever present themes of flora and fauna. Larger overall motifs, outlining passages of natural imagery, will be reminiscent of the iconic industrial and urban forms of bridges, pilings, tracks and structures.
